An important strength of the Cape Ann Time Bank is its affiliation
with TimeBanks USA, a national network of 50+ time
banks whose twin mission is “to support and nurture a
network of member Time Banks located across the United
States. The other is to foster a social movement that
seeks social justice and systems change through Time
Banking.” There are multiple advantages to the Cape Ann Time Bank from its affiliation with TimeBanks USA: access to a
bi-monthly conference call among time bank
coordinators from all over the country, access to a
Coordinators-Only portion of the online Forums (peer
support and information sharing), discounts on
registration fees, materials, trainings, monthly
E-bulletins, the TBUSA newsletter and use of the logo
and other branding materials.
The most significant benefit of affiliation with
TimeBanks USA by far is access to the Community Weaver
software. Found at www.community.timebanks.org,
Community Weaver is both a simple and an elegant
system for time bank members to register, to post the
services they offer and request, to contact each other
to set up service exchanges and to log the Time
Dollars™ (TD$) they earn and spend. The software makes it
possible for the Cape Ann Time Bank to postpone raising enough money
to pay a coordinator.
The Cape Ann Time Bank will operate with the five core values
promoted by TimeBanksUSA, a national network of local
time banks. Cape Ann Time Bank is an Affiliate of TimeBanksUSA.
1) Assets – Every human being has something to contribute.
2) Redefining work – Work that has value includes
whatever it takes to raise healthy children, build strong families, revitalize neighborhoods, make democracy work, advance social justice and make the
planet sustainable. This kind of work is to be honored, recorded
and rewarded.
3) Reciprocity – The questions, “How can I help you?”
and “how can you help me?” are seen in a new context
so that we ask, “How can we help each other build a world that is healthy for us both to live in?”
4) Social networks – People help each other weave communities of support, strength and trust based on mutual respect and commitment.
5) Respect – We hear and respond to the voices of all to promote social justice.
